Sketches in the Baltic. Bomarsund. Attack on the Forts by HMS Hecla, Valorous and Odin, 21st June 1854

Port-side quarter view of the 'Odin', and starboard-side quarter views of the 'Valorous' and 'Hecla'. In the distance is the burning fortress of Bomarsund on the Åland Islands, Finland. This scene depicts the first battle at Bomarsund during the Crimean War when three British ships attacked the fortress. However, unlike the print's depiction, the fortress at the time had only finished building two of its twelve subsidiary towers.
