Billingsgate Fish Porters 1920
A view of Billingsgate fish porters carrying crates of fish up from the quayside where the boats have moored. The rough etching emphasizes the movement of the workers, and contributes to an impression of their physically difficult profession. The large rendering of the figures hands draws attention to their livelihood. The figures in the lower left disappear into the background of the image, stoically striding forward.
