Original art: drawing. The artist is George Frederic Koehler, who as a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery under General Eliott during the siege of Gibraltar, 1779-83, invented the 'Koehler gun carriage' which allowed guns to be fired down from great heights on the Rock onto the besieging Spanish forces. He later rose to brigadier-general before dying at Jaffa in 1800. PvdM 11/05
