H.M. Ship Defiance at the destruction of three French Frigates (Italienne, Calypso & Cybile) under the Batteries of Sables d'Olonne in 1809
Defiance (1783) leads the squadron in action to drive ashore three French frigates, who had anchored under the protection of the Sables d'Olonne batteries, 24th February 1809. The Squadron was commanded by Rear-Admiral the Hon. Robert Stopford in the Caesar, 80.
