British Fleet including HMS Constance 50 guns. Captain Sir B W Walker K.C.B
This is probably the original watercolour by Henry Andrews Luscombe after a drawing by Lt F.B. Wainwright of the 'Constance'. It is inscribed, verso, in pencil: "H.M.S. Constance 50 guns (Capt. Sir B.W. Walker KCB) drawn by H.A. Luscombe"; below the image are the names of the other ships. To the left of 'Constance' are 'St Vincent', 'Rodney', 'Queen', 'Vanguard', and 'Canopus', and to the right are 'Albion' and 'Hibernia'. Below these names on the right is: "HMS Constance 50 guns Capt. Sir B.W. Walker KCB by H.A. Luscombe."
All these inscriptions seem likely to be in Luscombe's hand. This drawing is probably the original of the coloured lithograph that is also in NMM's collection (see PAH0935 and PAH0936). If this is the case, the drawing might date to 1846 or 1847 when Sir B.W. Walker was captain of 'Constance'.
