Training vessel Liberty (1850) in a calm sea
This is thought to be a watercolour painting of the training brig Liberty, which was built at Pembroke Dockyard in 1850 and sold in 1905. There are discrepancies between this painting and photographs of the ship, however, such as the number of scuttles and chains. The ship is shown in a flat calm sea with another sailing vessel viewed head-on, crossing her stern, and other ships in the hazy distance, right. Seagulls float above the surface of the flat calm water, adding a further note of serenity to this peaceful scene.
