Whale tooth
A sperm whale's tooth lightly engraved on one side with a full-rigged ship under sail. 'A SPERM WHALE'S TOOTH' is inscribed above the picture. It formerly belonged to the donor's uncle Captain William Thomas Littler (1847-1922) of the clipper 'Corinth' 1870. This is typical of the handicrafts produced by seamen of whaling ships, and it is known as scrimshaw.
