The paddle steamer 'Forbes' rigged with Chinese sails

Ruled line broadside elevation, made starboard-on, with a scale running alongside the keel.

The ‘Forbes’ was named after Captain Forbes who helped to introduce steam ships into India. Her engines were built in Britain by Boulton and Watt.

Inscribed (above): “Forbes steam vessel of Calcutta, as rigged with Chinese sails, with a fourth mast with square sails to be used with a fair wind, or without steam” and (lower left) the vessel’s dimensions.
