The Archimedes, steamer off the Nore, on her trip from Gravesend to Portsmouth which was performed in 21 hours against a fresh breeze from the West May 14 1839. Fitted with Mr F P Smith's Patent Screw Propeller
This an original drawing in graphite. It has a handwritten inscription which reads: "The Archimedes, Steamer, off the Nore on her trip from Gravesend to Portsmouth, which was performed in 21 hours against a fresh breeze from the West, May 14th 1839. Fitted with Mr F. P. Smith's Patent Screw Propeller."
The image is dated "Jany 9th 1844" in the bottom right-hand corner. While it is not signed, the drawing appears to be the original by William John Huggins on which the engraving by Charles Rosenberg is based (see PAH8879).
