The Proserpine Frigate Lost March 1799 off Newark Island in the Elbe

The ‘Proserpine’ was commanded by Capt. James Wallis from 1798. On 1 February 1799, she was wrecked in the Elbe Estuary, on Scharhorn Riff, crushed by ice, then her wreckage swepted out to sea and driven ashore on Bartrum Island (14 died).
