HMS 'Bellerophon' (1824), 50 Miles ESE of Malta, 1 Feb 1852
Inscribed: "H.M.S. BELLEROPHON. Captain the Rt Honble Lord George Poulet. In a Gale, 50 miles ESE of Malta - Feby 1st 1852". Corresponding to this print is the sketchbook kept 1850-53 by Mends, also in the NMM collection. The original watercolour behind this composition is not included, but there are two (PAI0863/4) showing Mends's own ship (HMS 'Trafalgar') affected by the same winds.
