H.M.S. Inconstant 36 guns... encountering a heavy gale in the Gulf of St Lawrence
The three-masted ship Inconstant is depicted, from its port stern quarter, in a very heavy sea. She is healing far over on her starboard side and waves are breaking over her port bow. She only has her main and missen lower courses raised. Flotsam, possibly a spar, is floating in the sea.
