Frigates at Sea. H.M. Ships Inconstant, Pique and Castor, on their trial cruise under the command of Sir J.J. Gordon Bremer, H.M.S. Hercules 74.
This hand coloured lithograph shows the Inconstant, from her port bow quarter, in the centre of the picture, under full sail in a relatively calm sea. She is flying the Blue Ensign at her stern. On the left of the image, the Hercules can be seen in a port broadside position, head into the wind, with her lower courses furled and crew on the upper yards looping these sails. She also flies the Blue Ensign at her stern and various signal flags from the main and foremasts. In the distance there are two other ships, Pique and Castor, under full sail, one on a starboard tack, the other on a port tack.
