H.M.S. Queen, 110 guns with Lisbon Bean Cods & other vessels off Cape Raza, River Tagus: Pilot going aboard
This coloured lithograph depicts the British Navy ship Queen, from a port stern quarter view, under reduced sail but in a calm sea off the River Tagus. Other square-rigged vessels can be seen in the distance, but small local vessels are shown in detail in the foreground. On the left is a local sailing boat, named in the inscription as a Lisbon Bean Cod, which was similar to a Mediterranean felucca with a large lateen sail. The five crew appear to be gesticulating at the three occupants of a small rowing boat in the centre right foreground. The coast is just visible on the far left of the picture.
