Distant view of Jamaica from the sea
Inscribed 'Jamaica' in graphite on the bottom right corner. Everett painted many cloud studies and quick sketches to capture the effect of light on water. These studies were often done from the ships on which he travelled as a deep water sailor, which allowed him to instantly portray his ever-changing surroundings. On his voyages around the world, Everett sketched the coastlines of 'exotic' locations, such as Guadeloupe, Cape Town, and Sydney.
