These studies were often done from the ships on which he travelled as a deep water sailor, which allowed him to instantly portray his ever-changing surroundings. On his voyages around the world, Everett sketched the coastlines of 'exotic' locations, such as Guadeloupe, Cape Town, and Sydney.
