A Dutch frigate

A portrait of a Dutch frigate viewed from the starboard bow with the sprilsail topmast shown. There are arms between two dolphins on the taffrail.

This is one of seven drawings accurately carried out in light pencil and wash. It is probably based on an offset but so far as can be seen, not in reverse. It is approximately dated by the watermarks and subjects.
