Starboard-quarter view of the ‘Kat’, 18 guns, built ?1665, last mentioned 1672. On the tafferel is a cat sejeant, and on the rail above a full-length figure of a man standing above a garland held by two figures on either side. There are two shields on the counter, on the port side a lion rampant and on the starboard side are crossed anchors representing the Admiralty of Amsterdam.

This is one of five drawings in which the stern decoration of the ship has been carried out accurately and in great detail in pencil and wash, but the sides of the ship have a dull, flat wash over them. It is probably based on an offset but not in reverse. It is approximately dated by the subject and watermark.
