Portrait of a Dutch frigate

A faint drawing of a Dutch frigate viewed from the port quarter. It is under courses, topsails and topgallants. The yards on the fore and main are braced sharp up, and the mizzen topsail is squared and the fore topsail is shivered. There is little detail of the stern shown. The tafferel appears to have an oval shield on it. It is inscribed ‘K’ [turn over] and on the back ‘dito mer op sij Tesien’ [the same seen more from the broadside].

One of ten offsets from accurate originals only slight touched with pencil. The drawing is very approximately dated by the style. Other drawings on the same paper are of circa 1665.
