Portrait of the 'Westfriesland'

A starboard-quarter view portrait of the ‘Westfriesland’, 78 guns, built ?1666, wrecked 1683. On the tafferel are five inescutcheons on a crowned shield saltirewise, the centre one arms of Friesland. On the rail above there is a full-length figure amidst arms and trophies with unicorns or seahorses on either side. Two shields are on the counter, on the port side a lion rampant and on the starboard side are crossed anchors.

This drawing is made in rapid but accurate pencil with a flat wash along the sides of the ship and slight wash on the stern.
