Portrait of the 'Saudadoes'
A port-quarter view of the ‘Saudadoes’, built as a yacht of 6 guns 1670, rebuilt as a sixth-rate 1673, captured 1696. Also called the ‘Sodalis’. The drawing is inscribed in brown ink ‘sodato, quins vergadt’ [‘Saudadoes’, the Queen’s frigate], referring to the fact that the yacht was built especially for Queen Katherine, who revisited Lisbon in her in 1670.
A faint offset, rubbed on the back, showing her ship-rigged. The waterline aft is strengthened with brown ink.
