A Dutch ship close-hauled in a breeze

The ship is viewed from close on the lee bow of a ship close-hauled on the port tack under main and mizzen topsails. The vessel’s fore topsail is at half-mast. There is a pendant at the main.

This is one of five drawings broadly done in thick pencil. All have been very approximately dated to 1685 by the style.
