Decoration of the quarter gallery of an English ship
This is one of three drawings of ship decoration (the others being PAF6628 and PAF6627). They are rapidly executed in thick pencil and have been approximately dated by their style and subject.
At the top of this drawing is the upper part of a ship’s starboard quarter-gallery. The drawing shows a seated figure with a long staff and part of a stern of a large ship.
Below is the upper part of the starboard quarter of a smaller ship. This shows two men leaning over the rail, which is covered with canvas or ‘fights.’
