The stern of a States yacht
This is one of two (along with PAH1896) rapid drawings which are believed to belong to Van de Velde’s sojourn in Holland in 1685-86.
The work is a very free drawing of the stern and port quarter, depicted from the leeboard. The stern occupies much of the composition and the tafferel is decorated with a coat of arms, possibly the coat of arms of Zeeland, between two arched windows.
