To His Royal Highness George Prince of Wales, This Perspective View of the Royal Hospital of Greenwich is humbly inscribed

A panoramic axial perspective of Greenwich Hospital from the Thames, which depicts elegant figures parading in the square, two yeoman halberdiers guarding the watergate and at the river stairs a ceremonial open barge is tied up, with a waterman fending off.

This is one of a number of images which represent the Hospital at around its completion in 1751 but with several characteristic unexecuted features. They include: the pattern of steps shown up to the Queen Mary and King William dome pavilions, above which the cupolas have no clock and wind dials; the lack of a change of level to the Upper Square and steps up to the central entrances of the King Charles and Queen Anne courts facing into the square. The Queen's House still shows mullion and transom windows which it lost around 1713-14 and two square 'drain' openings flank the Hospital water stairs with their distinctive stone pillars (not executed).
