Portrait of the 'Jaarsveld'
The ‘Jaarsveld’, 48 guns was built in Amsterdam in 1653. She was also called the ‘Huis te Jaarsveld’. On the tafferel (the upper part of the stern) is a country house, presumably Jaarsveld, with a moat and swans. On the rail above there is a figure between two dolphins, and below, on the counter (the overhanging part of the stern immediately above the water) on the left is a lion rampant, and on the right crossed anchors for the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
