Portrait of a States yacht
This work is a portrait of a States yacht, viewed from the starboard bow. The vessel’s figurehead is a winged dragon. Before the after cabin bulkhead is a full-length figure holding a spear. The yacht is wearing the ensign of the Admiralty of the Maas. There are three round ports before the leeboard. One is just abaft. The yacht depicted here is probably the same yacht illustrated in PAH3838.
This is an unsigned faint offset. It has been rubbed on the back and rapidly but accurately worked up with pencil. It is not in reverse, since the figure before the cabin has his sword in his right hand. The coats of arms on the side are correct. The work has been approximately dated by its watermark.
