Portrait of ‘Vereenigde Provincien’. Built 1665? 48-guns. Last mentioned 1667.

This is one of two offsets both from the same original drawing. PAH3850 is much fainter than this offset. They have been approximately dated to 1665 by the watermark on the paper.

This work is an unsigned ship portrait, showing the ‘Vereenidge Provincien’ from the port quarter. On the tafferel is a lion rampant, on a shield draped with laurels. Above it is a figure standing on the shield. There are an array of arms and trophies on the rail. Immediately below the tafferel are crossed anchors. There are two shields on the counter. On the starboard side is a lion rampant and two crossed anchors on the port side, which represents the Admiralty of Amsterdam.

The drawing is inscribed ‘t schip de vereenigde provintije’, which serves to identify the vessel.
