A Council of War in the Dutch fleet? May 1665

The Dutch fleet lying-by. On the right there is a starboard quarter view of the commander-in-chief, flag and pendant at the main, a ship with the lion of the United Provinces on the tafferel, possibly van Wassenaer in the ‘Eendracht’. A large number of boats are pulling towards her, and on her port beam is a stern view of a ship with a flag at the main, marked ‘a’. In the left middle distance, a starboard broadside view of the vice-admiral of the centre running down towards the admiral.

A rapid drawing in pen and brown ink with corrections in pen and grey ink. The subject is identified only from the stern of the ship on the right which appears to be the ‘Eendracht’.
