An English galliot close-hauled in a light breeze

In the left foreground is a lee broadside view of a galliot close-hauled on the starboard tack in a river setting, under mainsail, lug mizzen and two headsails, with the St George’s flag at the mizzen masthead. She is towing a wherry rigged with a small spritsail. Other vessels in the right background are rounding a bend in the river.

It bears a false signature in ink ‘W.V.V.J.’ of the Younger van de Velde.
