Portrait of an English 2nd-rate about 90-guns
Portrait of an English second-rate viewed from the starboard broadside, but only showing the fore part back to the after end of the main chains, the rest having been cut off. The visible broadside comprises of ten guns on the gun deck, eleven on the middle deck and ten on the upper deck, with wreathed ports. There is also a lion figurehead.
This is a fragment of a rapid drawing, lightly sketched over an offset. It is in the manner of the Younger’s earlier work, but does not seem to be his hand at such a late date as 1685, especially in the hatching and the waterline by the head. It has been approximately dated by subject and watermark.
