View of the beach at Brighton with small boats on foreshore (with receipt in artist's hand)

This may be the drawing Pocock exhibited at the Old Watercolour Society in 1809 (no. 170). The blind-stamped receipt in his hand reads 'London June 21st 1809 / Rec'd from Mr Sargeant - Seven pounds seventeen shillings & six pence for a drawing of the Beach at Brighton with Boats &c. / Nich. Pocock'. The drawing shows a Brighton hogboat drawn up on the beach and Lord Craven's ycht in the distance offshore, dressed overall, and firing a salute in honour of the Prince of Wales's birthday. Signed by the artist and dated, lower left. Purchased by Colnaghi's at a Sotheby's sale of 29 April 1935 for Sir James Caird, for NMM. Exhibited: NMM Pocock exhib. (1975) no.31.
