Admiral of Genoa
A portrait of the 60-gun Venetian warship, Admiral of Genoa, executed in pencil and wash with some pen and brown ink. The ship was built in Amsterdam for the Doge of Venice in 1655. On the counter and on the portlids are the red crosses of Genoa. This may be one of two ships being built in Amsterdam in 1653 and that were taken over by the Dutch and called Huis te Zwieten and Huis te Kruiningen. In the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, there is a drawing (H185) of the Admiral of Genoa with an inscription similar to the one above.
