Major General Hamilton Wilkie Simpson (1895-1986)

Hamilton Wilkie Simpson joined the Royal Marines in 1913, fighting at the defence of Antwerp the following year. He was wounded in action at the Dardanelles in 1915, joining HMS ‘Collingwood’ upon his recovery in November 1916, remaining with her until the end of 1919. He received the DSO for his services in Norway in 1940. His last appointment was to command the Chatham division of the Royal Marines. Ill health forced him to retire in 1946.
