Proof before letters. A full-length portrait of Samuel Hood (1762–1814) in captain’s (over three years) full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath and his empty right sleeve pinned to his waist, resting his left hand on an anchor, a view of ships in the distance. This portrait was engraved by George Clint after an original painting by John Hoppner and published by Samuel William Reynolds in 1808 (see PAI4989 for a lettered proof). (Updated May 2019.)
