Also lettered with the production details and publication line: ‘Painted by Gainsborough Dupont. / Engraved by W. T. Fry. / Fisher, Son & Co. London. 1840.’ This portrait was engraved by William Thomas Fry after Gainsborough Dupont’s full-length oil painting of 1794 in the Trinity House, London. It was published by Fisher, Son and Co. This impression is a reprint from the plate originally published in 1831 as an illustration in William Jerdan’s ‘National Portrait Gallery of Illustrious and Eminent Personages of the Nineteenth Century’ (London: Fisher, Son, & Jackson, 1832), volume 3.
