A half-length portrait slightly to the left showing the identified sitter in a puce coat and a white, gold-edged waistcoat with gold buttons. He wears his own hair. His left hand is on his hip; his right rests on a globe, which is set on a table with a chart and a pair of dividers. Beyond is Naples Bay with a British merchant ship at anchor.
