'Bridge Street, Chester'
Vignette.
Bridge Street, Chester, 1821
Framing exactly the same view as a later 1830s engraving by Allen, this vignette of a street scene on Lower Bridge Street in Chester shows a number of historic buildings, horses and carts and various people wandering and in doorways and balconies. Interestingly the later 1830s view contains not only the same buildings but many of the same people (at least people, horses and carriages in identical positions) suggesting it was copied from this one.
A precise linked to explain the precence of this print in the Hershel family collections is unknown, though it fits with their general interest, demonstrated elsewhere in this collection, of informative illustrations of historically significant scenes.
