Four classical poses: 'Hatred, Love, Moderation, Fury.'
Print by Francesco Bartolozzi after William Hamilton depicting the figures of love, hatred, fury and moderation. The whole page is numbered LXXXIX, indicating that it was a plate from a book. The publication is not named, however it does state that it was published by the Act Directs on 17th April 1779.
The scenes are taken from Greek mythology to illustrate these emotions, fury for example shows Perseus holding the Medusa's severed head. Love meanwhile has Cupid handing over arrows to Aphrodite.
The artist Hamilton and engraver Bartolozzi worked together on a number of occasions including most famously a scene from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
