Sir Samuel Hood, K.B. &c.&c
A full-length portrait of Samuel Hood (1762–1814) in captain’s (over three years) full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath and his empty right sleeve pinned to his waist, resting his left hand on an anchor, a view of ships in the distance. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sir Samuel Hood, K.B. &c. &c.’. Also lettered with a dedication to the sitter’s wife and the publication details: ‘Painted by I. Hoppner R.A. / Engraved by G. Clint. / To The Honble Lady Hood this Portrait is with permission respectfully dedicated by her Ladyship’s most obedient and humble Servt. Samuel W. Reynolds. / London Published May 2d. 1808 by S. W. Reynolds 47 Poland Street.’ This portrait was engraved by George Clint after an original painting by John Hoppner and published by Samuel William Reynolds on 2 May 1808. (Updated May 2019.)
