The 'Cutty Sark' at Sunset
Oil painting by the British artist John Everett of the 'Curry Sark' at Sunset. By the 1930s, Everett was experimenting with unusual compositions, rhythmic shapes and contrasting colours. The waves are painted in Art Deco style and the sunlight is rendered through straight, yellow strips reaching towards the edges of the canvas. The ‘Cutty Sark’, a famous British clipper ship, has survived to this day, and can be seen in the centre of Greenwich. A related sketch in sketchbook PAJ1451.
