The brig 'Dauntless'
'Dauntless' is depicted passing Flushing in 1861. Also shows 'Antwerp' pilot boat. Lloyd's Register 1861 lists 'Dauntless' as sailing to the Crimea when commanded by J. Reeves.
Inscribed in the painting below: 'Dauntless of Brixham, Capt. J. Reeves, passing Flushing 1861'. Michale Charles has suggested that this may not be 'British School' but by a member of the Weyts family of Antwerp or their pupil Petrus Nefos, all of whom specialised in reverse-glass painting. The location supports that idea. [PvdM 2/21]
