Episodes Maritimes. Combat des Sables D'Olonne... 24 Fevrier 1809

A depiction of the Battle of Les Sables-d’Olonne, 24 February 1809. The French frigate Italienne is shown in the right foreground in port bow view. The two ships behind her may also be part of the French fleet, possibly the frigates Calypso and Cybele. On the left side of the image are three ships, presumably the English vessels Cesar, Donegal, and Defiance, and further behind in the far left distance are three more ships, possibly the frigates Amelia, Nayade, and the brig Doterel. The town of Les Sables-d’Olonne can be seen in the far right distance.
