The print depicts a joint British and Austrian naval attack on Sidon, Syria, which took place on 27th September 1840. The Citadel is clearly shown on a promontory above the settlement and naval marines are climbing the slopes. Mountains are visible in the distance. The Turkish army can be seen crossing a bridge. Eight vessels are shown, one is Turkish, one is Austrian and several are steamers; all are named below the image.
