This hand-coloured aquatint depicts, in the centre of the picture, a starboard stern quarter view of the barque Morayshire, a merchantman, under full sail, though the main and fore lower courses are looped. She is entering the bay of Gibraltar and the Rock is clearly visible on the right of the image. She is flying the British ensign at her mizzen gaff, the Scottish flag on her fore mast and a company pennant of her main mast.

Another vessel under sail, flying the same range of flags is depicted on the left of the image. A small rowing boat with passengers lies off the Morayshire's starboard bow, on the right of the picture. Various other small local lateen-rigged craft can be seen in the background, as can the settlement at the foot of the Rock of Gibraltar.
