The steam yacht Zaza (1900) in the Bay of Naples

A port broadside view of the schooner-rigged steam yacht Zaza (1900) underway in the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius and Mount Somma in the background. The yacht is flying the owner's flag for Zaza (shown as a black bee, but is a red bee in Lloyd's Register of Yachts, 1903) when owned by William Beardmore, as well as the defaced blue ensign and burgee of the Royal Thames Yacht Club.

The composition of this painting with its use of the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the background is a common style for paintings by de Simone, as there are at least another ten yachts completed similar to this one. [see paintings of the steam yachts Lady Cassandra, Alberta, Shievan, RYS yacht Norseman, Esperanza, Doris, US yacht North Star, Royal Thames YC Hiawatha and others that have been sold over the years]

Signed 'de Simone' by artist and dated.
