HMS 'Bellerophon' (1824), 78 Guns, off the Sicilian (?) coast
'Bellerophon' shown starboard broadside view under full sail (including royals fitted on all three masts) in a calm. Mountainous background coastal landscapes frame the ship to left and (more distantly) right, with smoke from one peak suggesting a volcanic island group (perhaps Sicilian, considering the ship's period of service in the Mediterranean Fleet). By the time this sketch was made, she was back in England, having been relegated to harbour service. Signed and dated by artist bottom-right in pencil.
