The 'Carlysle Castle'
Drawing entitled, 'The ''Carlysle Castle'' [sic], being the last of the line to track to Australia. The last of the Blackwall ships she became the mother ship of the Orient line.' None of this except the signature is visible on this photo. The ship is presumably the 'Carlisle Castle' built by Green's at Blackwall for their London to Australia run in 1868. The drawing has been heightened with white and is signed by the artist, lower right. The original is foxed and the paper apparently acidified.
