George III reviewing the Fleet at Spithead, 22 June 1773, with a cutter in the foreground approaching the fleet
Drawing. The ship to the left is the 'Royal oak' flying red at the fore as flagship for the event of Vice-Admiral Thomas Pye (C-in-C, Portsmouth) who was advanced to Admiral of the Blue on the 24th and knighted by the king on board the 'Barfleur' (the Portsmouth guardship and his normal flagship). The ship flying blue at the fore, centre right, is the 'Dolphin', bearing the flag of Vice-Admiral George, Lord Edgcumbe, temporarily displaced from his flagship 'Royal Oak' by Pye for the event.
