Small vessels in a fresh breeze with a distant fleet, circa 1673, with later additions by Charles Gore
The subject of late 17th century shipping as well as the quality of the draughtsmanship and the format suggest that this delicate and atmospheric monochrome drawing originated as work by Willem van de Velde the Younger. Gore's later additions, such as the strengthening of the sea in the foreground, are easy to distinguish. See also PAF5281 and PAF5822.
